Jasper Conran Biography Educated at Bryanston and then Parsons School of Art & Design in New York, Jasper Conran designed his first collection for Henri Bendel, New York. In 1979, aged just 19, Jasper Conran launched his debut collection at London Fashion Week. The following year he was elected to the London Designer Collections. With two Fil d'Or International Linen awards in 1982 & 1983 and by now an internationally established label, Jasper Conran was awarded British Designer of the year in 1986 and the Fashion Group of America award the following year. Jasper Conran menswear was introduced in 1985. Today Jasper Conran's twice yearly pret-a-porter collections are renowned for their clean-lined, focused approach that have established him as one of London's foremost designers. They are a celebration of the pleasures of modern dressing, a fusion of classic structure and exuberant playful detail. The shape of women - the curve and swoop of breast and hips - is reflected in Conran's sculptural silhouettes, either cut narrow and slender to undulate down the body in a long, unbroken line or fitted and emphasised at the waist. The detail is confined to cut and fit, the scalpel curve on the neckline of a coat, the intricate seaming on a panelled leather fencing jacket. Jasper Conran believes that 'Pleasure is the first principle of fashion.' His primary concern is to articulate a point of view that is never condescending to women. He is of the opinion that a certain joy is required in fashion, playfulness and lightness in dress.
